On my Yanmar 2GM20 diesel engine, I need to replace the crush washer for the bleed screw to stop it from weeping fuel. The only reason I even know about this "crush washer" from searching this site, but what I don't know is how to get these things. Is this something I can get from a normal automotive store?

Not sure if this is a joke or not. It took me 30 sec. to find this and I don't have a diesel. They called it a bleeder plug washer, but in the description they call it bleeder plug packing. marinedieseldirect.com Manufacturer: Yanmar Part Number: 23418-060000 Description: BLEEDER PLUG PACKING $0.56 - each

Make sure you get the right size. They have a couple of sizes.

thanks for the link

Nope, not a joke, I'm just new to this game and my google searches were too generic to get any good hits.

Sorry about that

I should not have been so rude. My apologies. Good Luck, Dan

Shouldn't have to order on the net....

Had the same problem and went to my local Yanmar dealer and he gave me a few. Surely Portland has several dealers. Be sure and get some extras. Check the yellow pages for Yanmar. Good luck.

Bleed Screw Washers

This weeping is a recurring problem and the only safe solution I have used that works was getting replacement 'Yanmar' wasers. There are two bkeed screws on the engine filter; one has a copper washer and one has a nylon washer. Either way after a couple adjustments & bleeding the filter, they will weep and need replacement. Do not mess with the fuel line 'banjo' fitting washers unless you have replacements for them on hand as well. If you replace the manual furl pump or the engine mounted filter there will be at pair of crush washers per each 'banjo' fitting. You can't tell when they are 'crushed'; but they are soft copper that once compressed won't compress again. you also risk stripping an aluminum fitting with a steel bolt or bleed screw as the case may be if you use more torque to try to stop the weeping. And please don't ask how I know so much about this serries of problems. Lets just say my fuel system does not weep and I have a hand full of all the crush washers on board now.

Take the old over and match it up. Buy the box of them. If your like me then split the box into two ziploc bags and put them in two different places. Because when you need them you wil not be able to find them and having them in two spots increases your chances of finding them before you get so frustrated you go and buy more only to find the old ones right after you finish the project. You could also zip tie them to the fuel line so theat they are always right there.
