I own a 2000 Beneteau Oceanis 361.( French built), I want to add a third battery ( needed to run a 1000 amp 240 volt inverter ) but there is only space for the 2 (originally supplied)in the engine compartment. I would like to know if other owners have installed additional ( or bigger ) batteries and where they located and wired them. I do not know the configuration of the American built boats but reading comments from owners as to the extras they have installed ( air/ heat /macerators /microwaves etc ) I assume they either have larger batteries or more than 2.Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

Cockpit Locker
I ordered an extra house battery with my new (American built) 361 2 cabin version. It was installed in a box in the cockpit locker by the dealer. It seems like a great location: there's plenty of room in that huge locker; the cable run is short; and the battery is very accessible. Good luck.

Tim, I too have a 361, 3/4 Time, and am considering intalling an additional house battery as one of my winter projects. Could you provide me any additional information on the installation. I interested in how the cables are run from the locker to the engine compartment, particularly where the penetration is made to the engine compartment. Where in the locker did they place the battery box? Thanks for any information you can provide. See you on the Bay. TJ

TJ- The battery is all the way forward in the locker in its own box. As far as where the cables are routed, I'll have to get back to you on that. Next time I check on the boat (soon!) I'll check and let you know.

I have the 331 and have added a 4D to the port side in the aft cabin. One item I noticed was the increased battery temperature on the battery installed ahead of the engine when charging. I am moving this battery to a cooler location this winter.

I too plan installing extra battries to a US Built 361. I have been told they can be fitted alongside the starting battery on the port side under the aft berth. I have a 2 cabin model.

Group : From what Tim writes, I'm wondering if my dealer ordered extra power from the start ! Winpipe (a 2001 361) came with 3 batteries; 1) Forward of the engine 2) The large house battery (in the port side cockpit locker) is hooked up in series with the second battery, which is (under your feet) in the aft berth. Just as Lachlan sez, I too wanted more power & had a second large house battery, (in the same make of battery box) installed in series next to the first one, in the port side cockpit locker.
