A few days ago I lifted the floor boards on my 1986 Hunter 23.5 and discover a small amount of water under two of the floor boards. I vacuumed it up only to have it come back the next day. At first I thought it had leaked in from blowing snow while on hard, but now I don’t know. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Bob N Miss Lisa

I had H20 in MY H23...
I too was sponging out some H20 from around the keelbolts. I thought leak, hatches, deck fittings, everything. In MY case, I had placed 4 gallons of bottled water for emergengy consumption into the space uner the v-berth. You guessed it, a pounding sea burst two of the plastic jugs and they slowly dribbled into the space under my floorboards. Any chance yours is a similar case? Good luck! Sail on! Water seeping in
We have a h23 and we to get water in this same area. We sail about once a week and keep it moored and I have to sponge a little bit out each week. There was a post about this maybe from between the liners but I don't really know. It does seem to come from the little holes. I have dried the whole inside of the boat out with sponge and paper towel and made sure no other water was on the boat even with no rain we had a little bit of water in there and the keel bolts were checked by a boat yard and they said everything was fine, so I am anxious to see what other people have to say. not in my case anyway. there's allot about this in the archives. especially for the h23. bottom line is it could be about anywhere and almost all 23's are bad about it. i drilled a small hole and used a shop vac with attached and taped tube to suck out all i could from between the inner and outer sections at the last keel bolt well. all has been fine till about the last snow this winter when i noticed more water has appeared. my boat has been in my driveway all winter so it isn't coming up from the bottom. since for the last 2 snows i had the cockpit covered pretty well, i am suspicious of the anchor well area myself.

Break out the Garden Hose
I have a 23.5 and also found water in the bilge. I spoke to some of my friends and they suggested having someone hold a hose over each deck fitting and watch for collection in the bilge. I will be trying this in the coming weeks. Heck, it's worth a try.

The boat is a 23 wing keel. There are a couple of cavaties in the hull you cannot get to thus water pools in those areas. Eventually it will seep out into the bilge. Do not fret as it will not hurt anything. You do need to see where the water is coming from. Areas to look at are the shroud chain plates, windows, anchor locker drain, bottom transom gudgeon, etc.. Look for water leaks topsides and that is the root of your problem. Once fixed, no more water in the bilge once the small cavaties have dried.

Cockpit drain..
Add to Dave's list: the cockpit drain hose. I was pretty ticked off to find water in the bilge after the first outing with my new (to me) H23 last fall. The lower gudgeon was loose and leaking, and a crack in the cockpit drain hose was also and probably mostly to blaim. There have been a LOT of postings about water in H23's. I'm beginning to believe you're lucky if you don't have any. The lack of a true bilge is a bit annoying! Oh well, she is a lot of fun to sail and sponging up a little water isn't tough duty.
