Where is the switch to change the water tanks?

Recently bought a 1990 Hunter 42 Passage and can not find the valve to change water tanks. Have 2 tanks, bow and starboard - the bow tanks run normally but can not draw water from the starboard tank? Have asked Hunter Marine where the valve/switch is located and asked for a drawing of the water system. Any ideas?Thanks in advance.Bill

There should be two gate valves just under the lid under the seat cushion to the left of the foot of the stairway. The part that sticks out some. Should be on the inboard side of the hot water heater and you should also see the water pump strainer in there somewhere. Clean that regularly. You should only have one tank valve open at a time. Otherwise the water will drain to the lower tank and cause problems when healing. The inboard valve is for the forward tank and the outboard valve is for the PORT tank. [there is no starboard tank. the tank on the starboard side is the sewage holding tank.]At least thats the way it is on the 1997 P42.

Thanks Brad - you are correct about the STARBOARD tank being the sewage holding tank - guess I have to hold my PORT hand up when I am describing things!! Will check out your explanation over the weekend. Again, a big THANKS!!Bill

Port Side

I also have a 1990 P42 that I have lived on for 4 years. Lift the port side main salon seat cushion (the first one forward of the nav table). There is a storage cover. As you face port there are two pvc valves behind the hot water heater. The one on your right is from the forward tank and the one on your left is the port tank. Both will have strainers that need periodic cleaning. You will also see your fresh water pressure pump. The forward tank holds 65 gallons and the port tank holds 85 gallons. Good Luck!
