this seems like a strange request but just purchased a 1983 hunter 34 and a prior owner converted the waste system to a (lectra san) treatment system that is mounted under the seat behind the bulkhead in front of the head. so i have no hoses to follow elsewhere and a friend asked me if there was a built in style like his 80 hunter cherubini 27 ? it appears that under the same seat would be a place to install a new holding tank but the largest that will fit is a 20 gallon, i am installing an electric head with a macerator and I'm concerned that this will fill up quickly so anyone have some suggestions here HELP

Under that seat is where the original tank was installed. On the 34, you might be able to convert the space under the V-berth but running the necessary hoses there might be difficult. Or under the seat in front of the galley. The water heater could be moved under the seat behind the bulkhead. But again you are looking at major alterations, made even more complicated by the heater heat exchanger hoses running to the engine. If I was you, I'd measure carefully the space under the bulkhead seat and install whatever fits in there and learn to live with it. Good luck
thank you, that is what i was planning to do. I can get a 20 gal tank in there with the openings on one end and I guess I have to make them work somehow. But the necessary USCG required Y valve presents a problem because the thru hull is 6 inches from the end of the tank connection. The large hoses are not too flexible for these short bends also! This project running new waste and thru hole hoses is going to be like wrestling a baby alligator! I can't wait
Christian, because of the difficulty in bending the hoses, when I replaced them several years ago, I simply cut the hose and installed a 45˚ or 90˚ pvc angle,sliding the hose over it and double-clamping. I realize one shouldn't do that, but it has worked flawlessly since then and i have no odors.
I recently replaced my holding tank also. No matter how I measured it. The only thing I could get in there was a 20 gallon. Because of the two thru hulls in that same compartment. My Y valve is on the other side of the bulkhead inside the head area. Hooking up the hoses and pushing them through the bulkhead really was not a big deal.

Hi, Thank you for the photos! That is a clean installation for sure. Did you repaint the area bed you reinstalled the stuff? I have the floorboard honey/teak in there and when the water treatment machine was in there it leaked and what a foul smell it left behind. Im thinking I should remove the sole and clean under there! any ideas and also would you have photos maybe of the install of the y valve in the head? I really appreciate your input here, Tx, Christian
I replaced my floor this year.I coated the entire underside and edges of the wood.Then I put those snap together tiles from west marine under the water heater and holding tank.that way sweat and moisture are no longer a problem. I did paint the compartments before anything went in.I also discovered more real estate forward of the bilge.I glassed that in and now have more storage.
