Where is seacock on 1987 Hunter 285?

Hello everyone, I have to admit to feeling like a moron asking this, I've had sailboats (Cal 25, Ericson 27, Lancer 30 and now the Hunter) since 2003 but they've all been outboards. Just recently purchased a 1987 Hunter 285 from a boat donation outfit, and was not able to speak with the previous owner to get a briefing on the boat and how it all works, so I'm a bit of a neophyte. I am concerned about barnacle buildup in the seacock/raw water intake area and want to close it after each outing, but I cannot find the damned thing. I've checked in the aft berth, lifted the board to see the drive train and back side of the engine, but cannot find it. Nor can I find it in starboard locker. Frustrating. Thanks!

Lots of good info on the site.. here is an owner's manual, but it doesn't look to have the engine cooling seacock location ..Start t the water pump (bottom left corner as you are looking aft at the front of the engine.. The hose that doesn't go to the heat exchanger goes to the seacock, usually through a strainer..

can you follow the intake hose backwards from the engine?

The ones I have seen, were under the aft berth just above the shaft. .They all had a 1/2" thru hull with a gate valve. Most have been changed to a ball valve. The stock arrangement had a short hose running from the valve to a nice bronze Groco strainer and then to the engine. Can't imagine why the location would be different but Hunter did make changes every year but usually for the better.

And now a word from the sponsor...
Cabinet catch for many Hunters

These catches were common on Hunters from the Legend-era through today's Marlow-Hunters. We keep a large stock on hand for emergency shipments or just getting spares.

Thanks, everyone, I found it. It was right under my nose the whole time but because the valve was in the open position, it was straight up and down and looking down on it all I saw was the hose, not the valve handle. I had a scare over the weekend, my bottom paint lasted not as long as I thought, barnacles grew around the intake, and inhibited the water flow, so the engine overheated. Just had her hauled and scraped and intake port cleaned and engine is humming like a kitten. Phew.
