This Yacht Club is one of the 5 oldest in the Nation. A member won the Newport - Bermuda Race 2 times in a row (during this century!). This city was a colonial capital from 1686 until 1776!

I can provide more clues if necessary. @Ward H, you cannot claim a prize for this, so don't answer! ;)

Good clues! Not what I would have guessed before a little research, but it looks like you were at the Raritan Yacht Club, Perth Amboy NJ. Perth Amboy was the capital of the colony of NJ for those years, and apparently the multiple time winning skipper of the Newport Bermuda race was Peter Rebovich with his boat Sinn Fein.

That's it! Work brought me to that neighborhood for a few days. It's a beautiful neighborhood at that, with some really attractive old Victorian-style residences. Ferry service to NYC was intended to re-vitalize the area around the old Tottenville Ferry. Alas, it didn't materialize and re-development has slowed. Surprisingly, from the banks of the Arthur Kill, Staten Island is surprisingly close! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perth_Amboy_Ferry_Slip

More great information about Perth Amboy … it is home to the oldest continuously used City Hall in the United States and it was in that City Hall that New Jersey was the first State to ratify the Bill of Rights.

Proprietary House in Perth Amboy is the only Royal Governor's Mansion still intact since colonial days. It was there that William Franklin, son of Benjamin Franklin, was the Royal Governor of New Jersey when he was arrested by the Continental Army!

In 1896 the first submarine, which was designed by John Holland of Paterson, was perfected at the Industrial Iron Works and Machine Shop in Perth Amboy.

There is some fascinating history there on the banks of the Arthur Kill where it meets Raritan Bay!
