Where does the water go?

I'm re-doing the interior of my Mac 25.(along with everything else) I discarded the old galley or what was left of it and built a new one. Being a neophyte on sailboats has posed several challenges. I put a new sink in, a 12v water pump and a 9 gal fresh water but where does the "gray" water drain to? Do you run a line to the bilge area or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope to have "Dixie Sun" in the lake by the end of May. That's my goal. I'll add pics once everything is in place.

Water goes here

Just like the fresh water, you have to install a tank to catch the gray water too.

Where does the water go

Depending on the body of water that you are going to use the boat on makes a difference on what you can do with grey water. There are many inland lakes that prohibit the discharge of any grey water at all. A through hull fitting that drains your sink into the water would have to be disconnected in these lakes. Brian's previous post is the 50 state legal way of dealing with grey water. Drain it into a holding tank. Of course you could always check your local law for the body of water that you are going to do your boating in.

Thanks!

I was afraid of that. I guess I'll use one side of the galley for a flexible tank. Thanks for your help and I'm sure I'll have many more questions as I get closer to launch.

Brown water darin on a 26x

I just scoped out a 1999 26x over the weekend and I see that the galley sink brown water drains out through a thru hole in the hull. -Don

Brown?

Don, Unless you're using the galley for purposes other than intended, the water should be classified as (and colored) gray, not brown. Not all areas are so restrictive as to prohibit gray water discharge, yet. Before long it will be a crime to swim in the ocean because of skin oils and cells released and the possible covert discharge of brown (or yellow) water! Happy (fusion powered) sails *_/), MArk

Where is the bilge?

I'm in worse shape. I don't know where the bilge is or what the configuration of the rudder should be (extended or at a right-angle from the mounting bracket?)? I didn't realize the incredible amount of work it was going to take to restore an '83 Mac, but the more I learn about the boat the happier I am with it. I still haven't figured out how to replace the genoa or even how to rig the boat, but once the motor is replaced I will figure it out. Any suggestions on mounting the depthfinder on the bulk head next to the compass?..... Of course that is only one of a thousand other questions???????

Bulkhead instruments

The most common arrangement I see is to have the compass on one side and everything else on the other side of the companionway (depth, knots, wind, etc.) If the 25 is like the 22, then the interior liner covers most of the bilge; access is underneath the seats, storage areas, cockpit, etc., anywhere you can see the inside of the hull itself. Rudder is extended straight down into water, unless raised for launching, etc. When raised, it can be damaged by the outboard blades if they meet.

Paging Rich Songer

It's sounds like we are basically trying to do the same thing, ie; restore and sail a Mac 25. Can we compare notes on progress and problems? Email me if you will at pillowman@centurytel.net(no it's not a porno site, I manufacture decorative pillows for retail markets)
