Where do you store your tools?

In my old H260, I stored them down below, under a settee. I've been keeping them in the aft port side lazaratte locker, but it seems it may be subject to the "salt air" just a little too much. Lazarette storage is a bit limited on the MH40 we are hopefully moving into.

What do you do?

although I dont have a Hunter, I keep my common tools in a tote bin setting at the bottom of the hanging locker.... I have another bin I keep in the quarter berth that has all the special tools, spare oil and fuel filters, belts and other mechanical parts.... and another that holds spare hardware..

the lazerette holds sailing gear...

I keep my important tools under the boat in my slip. I have spares in a toolbox (plastic) in a cubby in the boat. They are waiting their turn to be stored under the boat.

Tool & Spares Storage

The P42 has a center settee in the main cabin. It is used to store two plastic tool type boxes, one for tools and the other for fasteners and small thingees that I might need. The fastener tool box has four drawers that I use one for plumbing, one for electrical, and one each for SS screws and SS machine screws. It also has a large compartment on top for odds and ends such as zip ties, carabiners, shackles, etc.

Spare parts, such as filters, pumps, light fixtures, and other tools, such as drills, torches, soldering iron, large wrenches, store in the aft cabin port side settee. Lots of storage room on our boat.

I had to read this twice. I love my First Mate's laugh. Thanks for providing it!

I use my nav station desk, to which I added a hatch holder. I put them in a kitchen drawer plastic separator. Very handy and useful. Other drawers in the boat hold clamps and other work-a-day stuff. I have a separate socket set tool set, and a small Sears workbag with electrical tools and "visiting other boats" tools. Spares are kept in the less accessible cubbies behind the seats backs.

I keep small frequently used tools in the cockpit locker, adjustable crescent wrench, screw drivers, pliers etc. these are replaced as they disappear.
Then most of the rest are in a canvas tool bag in the starboard settee. The plastic boxes of s/s fasteners, specialty tools, electric drill are kept under the v-berth starboard side. Everything to change the oil, fuel filter, impeller, along with the spares are kept under the aft berth to starboard, right where they will be used. I try to keep them all on the starboard side to trim out the weight of the generator on the port side. I keep a VOM in the nav desk.

I carry a lot of tools and spares, here is my o-ring selection :)

On my C30 I had plenty of room under the Port Settee for EVERYTHING! On our current H430 I have large tools in a drip proof plastic box in one of the Lazarettes, tools in their own storage boxes, ie rechargeable drill, Drill bits stored in lockers scattered about. I took all my small tools home and replaced them with the large set sold by West Marine. This set has everything needed most and is conveniently located on the Starboard hatch to the engine compartment, right next to the Nav Station bench seat. Right at the foot of the companionway.

The Admiral and I have noticed other categories of storage where space is less available on the larger more modern design than the older more traditional boat.

Really Funny.

As a diver, I tend to swim for them when they put themselves away under the boat.

My boat came with a set of 3 metal draws with hinged lid installed under the forward dinning seat. It has a removable timber panel that keeps them closed. The rest I keep under the lounge seat in a couple of soft fishing tackle boxes. The big stuff like power drill, bolt cutters, hamers etc in a plastic tub under the front berth.

New Hunter 31 owner in the middle of restoration, so tools are stored scattered around the cabin, on the dock, in my Van on the galley countertop, in the v-berth, on top of the nav station etc. etc. however, once the restoration is done I am trying to decide where the permanent on-board tools will reside. I am thinking a large dry box loaded with smaller canvas tool pouches for wrenches, screwdrivers, Socket wrenches, electrical, etc. Looking for something that will fit under the benches in the dining area.

The H .5 Legend series boats have a pair of bins atop the engine box , halfway down the ladder from the cockpit, that are among the most brilliant design features I have ever seen in a marine interior. I would be surprised to hear of any .5 Legend series owner who doesn't use these for storing all tools not already under the boat yet!

On my 49, everything you open, with the exception of the fridges, and washer/ dryer has tools in it.
