Where did all the trailers go?

As I said in an earlier post I'm looking for a Hunter 22. It is my understanding a Hunter 22 is a trailerable sailboat. Maybe not wise to trailer for each use, but trailerable none the less. Almost every hunter I find and inquire about does not come with a trailer. My thinking is this. 1. If I were buying this size boat new, I would not think about not getting a trailer with it. Even if I was going to slip the boat I would want a trailer to be able to take it home every now and then for projects and maintenance. (Bottom jobs etc.) and not to mention running from Hurricanes etc. 2. If I had a boat and trailer I would not consider selling the trailer without the boat. So my question is How come about about 95% of the Hunter 22's I've found do not have a trailer with them? Where did all the trailers go? does anyone know the original manufacture of the trailers hunter used for the 22? Do you think someone could build one to the original specs? Where could you get these specs? I may have to stop my search for the boat and buy a trailer first. Then guess what would happen, I'd find a boat with a trailer !!!!!! Id bet I could sell it though!!!! Why do most people have the boat and no trailer, does this boat not trailer well? I would assume it would trailer as well as a Catalina 22. By the way I can find plenty of Catalina 22's with trailers, but I want the Hunter. P.S. Anyone close to Sough Mississipi have a Hunter 22 I could take a look at? I'm quite possitive this is the boat I want, but want to compare the inside roominess to the Catalina 22.

H22

I am more familar with the h23, but I did look at the h 22. There is no comparision to a Cat 22. The Catalina is a much small design boat. The lenth is the same but the beam is less. It is much shallower. The head room in the hunter is around 4 ft 6 in, and the Cat is under 4 ft. The boat also displaces about 1000 lbs less. The sail area is much smaller as well. As far as trailing I hate trailing the h23. It is lighter than the 22 so I imagine the 22 is a little harder to trail. My trailer sits in my driveway and never gets used. I have already done most major repairs on the boat so we don't need to take it out of the water. Call hunter and they can give you the specs on a trailer. You may need a doulble axle trailer. Hope this helps.

boats last longer than trailers

The H22 production run finished in 1985. That would mean that all H22s and trailers are over 20 years old. Perhaps the boats simply last longer than the trailers. Also, perhaps trailer sailing wasn't as popular back in the early 80's and more people bought the boats without trailers back then. I'm sure you could get a trailer dealer to customize a trailer for the H22. Although it would cost $.
