The Hunter designed pedestal on my 2000 H340 has an Edson CD-i Compact Rack & Pinion steering system. It works well and requires minimal maintenance. However, this season I had a problem with the wheel brake. The stainless knob for the wheel brake threads onto a plastic bushing which in turn slides onto and is secured to the brake shaft. The threads on the plastic bushing began to slip and it was difficult to loosen the brake shaft after the knob was tightened. I thought that some Locktite might fix the problem but the package says not to use it on plastic.
I sent an email to the customer service link on the Edson Marine web site (www.edsonintl.com) and asked for advice to repair or replace the plastic insert. The next day I received a reply from Ed Stiess, V.P. of Edson's Marine Division. He said he could not comment without seeing the condition of the part and offered to send me a complimentary new one in the mail. Within two days, I had a new plastic threaded bushing at no cost.
I am impressed with the response and customer service for a nine year old steering system and glad that Hunter used a company such as Edson to equip its boats.
