Hi Folks,
I have a 1992 26S and I've hit the rudder with the prop several times. This usually happens in shallow water with the rudder up. Usually someone else is at the helm but I've done it myself in reverse in a tight shallow spot.

So...I've decided to buy a guard. I saw the picture of JDK's guard in another post. I'm sure that on would do.

So the question is: where can I buy one? Then, where can I buy a cheaper one?

Thanks, Jerry

I use the Power Thruster on this page under Parts.....Propulsion. It only shields the top half of the propeller. The rudder can still hit the propeller if it's only partially down.

But I have found that if the water is too shallow for the rudder, then the best thing to do is lift the rudder out of the water and use the motor to steer. IMO, this is the best way to maneuver the boat in shallow water, and the rudder is protected as well.

Cabelas has a really good one in stainless. It encircles the entire prop and will protect your rudder in all positions. Try their website.

Thanks folks,
I can't lift my rudder because there is almost no steerage with the motor. It's a 9.8 Tohatsu and there is no room to steer it. I like the Cabellas guard but can't figure out which model since I know that Tohatsu makes the Mercury 4 strokes and they excluded the Mercury 4 stroke 9.9 to 15 from one of them.

I will look at the others before I buy. Thanks again, Jerry

I have one like the one shown in MrBill's link. The prop diameter is all you need to worry about.

I think model #1 at Cabelas will work on your motor, at least that's the way I read the info they give.

Does this mod improve the engine's thrust? Notice any change? Some sellers claim better fuel economy and power but I am skeptical...
