I have just recently picked-up a "Fixer Upper". A '73 22'. I will have many questions in the near future for anyone willing to listen. I desperately need to find a tiller and a mainsail. At this level in the game I would be satisfied with used items. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Internet sites or anything else that would at least get me started.

Some one is listening

Teddy & Heather: For some used sails contact Minneys in Newport Beach, CA. http://www.minneysyachtsurplus.com/ They may also have a tiller that fits. They have the website but you really need to call them. If they do not have the tiller call H & L Marine in Rancho Domiguez, CA. They make them for Catalina.

Some more ideas

Guys, congrats on your purchase. Try Bacon and Associates in Anapolis. They have a huge inventory of used sails. I recently got a listing and there were many that would be appropriate for your boat. Remember that it doesn't have to be the exact sail your boat came with as long as it fits. Minnies would be my guess for the tiller too. If you're handy, you might try making one from hardwood. Tiller Ideas

My tiller was in bad shape also on my "new" '73 boat (the previous owner included that in the sale, as well as the customized baseball bat-tiller he had been using). I had a handy relative who had a piece of mahogany bedframe who rough cut it using the old tiller as a template, then I sanded it and it is just getting its last coat of varnish. It seems a lot more solid than the new ones! Time will tell, but what a great story....

tiller replacement

If you decide to splurge on a new replacement tiller, both West Marine and Defender sell direct replacements for many boats. Even if they don't have the Catalina 22, you can probably make one of their stock items fit.
