I am planning on pumingp approx. 15 gallons of diesel out of my tank. I have been having fuel issues (algea) and want to eliminate this variable. I have plenty of fuel containers to use but do not know what to do with it? I have taking other fluids in much less volume to auto-zone, but I do not think they will take 15 gals.

Anything thoughts on where I can dispose of it?

Thanks,

Our town dump here in NY has a section where they take and properly dispose of any chemical including fuel. All for free for home owners. Might want the check with your town.....

If you were closer I would take it in a heart beat.. I often use old diesel in my homes oil fired boiler... I just run it through a Racor filter before it goes into our oil tank...

Find someone with an oil furnace and boiler and just pre-filter it...

Talk to an independent long distance trucker or a commercial fisherman.

Fire Departments use it for training.

Filter it and reuse it.

Some marinas have tanks just for that purpose, and engine oil. Maybe a road construction company would use it for their big machines? Check around.

Try some of the big power boaters at your marina. when you have a tank of several hundred gallons with fuel polishers they might take it off your hands.

I`d try Eastern Landfill ,Allendar road off rt. 40 above White Marsh. They might let you lose it in their waste oil tanks there. They have a large citizens recycling area just inside the gate to the left.

I gave mine to a dive charter operator in my marina who uses lots of fuel every day. He polished it and put five gallons at a time in his tanks to dilute it a lot. No problem and he ended up with 25 free gallons of fuel saving 80 or 90 bucks.

I advertised for sale on Craigslist for $0.25 a gallon. A guy showed up with a tank, pump, filter system. He extracted the fuel and said he was going to use it in a furnace at his property. Given the unreliable cetane rating, and state of decomposition of old diesel, it isn't worth re-using a small quantity in an engine. For large quantities you could filter, mix, lab test it for conformity with fuel standards and reuse it. Alternatively waste fuel blenders like old diesel of known pedigree to get the right BTU value on their product. But they won't pay you anything.

The best way to find out is just show up with 5 gallons. Usually if they have space in the disposal tank they will not give you an issue over just 5 gallons. You could at this time indicate you have another five that you would like to dump and see how it goes. Pull the same scheeme in a couple of other stores and by the end of the day you should be rid of them. The alternative would be to dump by the quart which you could do in about a year's time.

We disposed of about that much in Annapolis about 1997. Calll county waste management, I think we used Anne Arundel. They had a free dumpsite.

Maryland Marina has a tank for waste diesel and one for used oil. No gasoline

Dont take it to an auto parts store. They take oil and transmission fluid, nothing else. Diesel, gasoline and automotive brake fluids are a whole other type of hazmat and they dont want them.

I work in a parts store part time and we get seriously pissed off when people dump mixed fluids into our tanks. One because if there's too much of it in the oil the disposal place wont take it and it costs the company MAJOR money to get rid of it, and two because diesel and gasoline STINK! The waste oil tanks are vented, and indoors. Right now the store I work at smells of old rotten gas so bad customers dont even wanna walk in because some A**hole decided to sneak it into our tanks. Dont be that A**hole. People have to work in that smelly store all day.
