For what bottom conditions does Fortress not recommend their (or other fluke-type) anchor? Are there any considerations for use of a Fortress in other than sand/mud bottoms if it’s my primary?

Brian Sheehan, Fortress Anchors

Fluke type anchors work best in sand, mud, and clay. Remember: These are the only bottoms where an anchor that depends on burying in the sea beds will have good holding. Rock, coral and weed bottoms are a problem for all anchors. No anchor, regardless of type, can provide trouble free service in these bottoms.

Not For Sand For Us

We do not use our Fortress FX-16 in sand. We would not use any fluke style anchor in sand. Many folks do. We use a Delta for sand and we ALWAYS dive on the anchor to make sure it is securley burried.
