When is your sailboat large enough?

This one is just right

If I won 10 million dollars in the lotto, I would probably buy a new boat, but it would be 35 to 40 ft. (I'm sorry to say it probably wouldn't be a hunter, but at that point money would be no object). Since I intend to live aboard, 37 ft LOA with 30 ft LWL seems just about perfect. Large enough to be comfortable, small enough to single hand when I have to. As things stand, I haven't won 10 million, and my 37 ft cutter seems almost perfect.

My boat is large enough when...

...it just barely fits in my driveway. That sounds like the sailboat I have now (Catalina 18). The local pedestrians don't like it if the trailer tongue sticks out over the sidewalk. Answer #2: Your tow vehicle is close to its maximum towing capacity when pulling your sailboat and trailer.

Ken, You left your electric cord at the dock!

Ken, I am in the 370 Beneteau on the parking lot behind where your new 290 was docked for the past few days. You left your electric cord on the dock. Don't you want it? Jack Oceanis370@aol.com

Ah, does this question assume only one at a time?

Our summer sailing lake is only 3600 acres (but no visible wake feature is great), so anything larger than around 30 l.o.a. would be silly and our 26' Mac fits in just fine. However, we "needed" our own tender to get out to the mooring, so of course I "had" to buy a sailing dinghy to shuttle to the mooring and play dinghysailor on ... so, perhaps, the question could be asked, "How many boats are enough?"

time not size

A boat is big enough, if it can take you as far as you have the time to go.

Pete , you said a lot in a few words.

The amount of sailing, and the type of travel you plan to do in the sailboat have all to do with the type and size of the craft. I'm getting interested in the trips I hear about that take in the New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. I don't think I'd want to try that trip in my 19'. I could maybe set a goal of getting to that point in a year or so.
