wheels for car / traveller on Missen Boom

I may have some terms wrong, so please excuse me - bit of a newbie.

i acquired a Tahiti Ketch (see photo) here:

The missen sail unfurls and is pulled aft by a combination of furling line and a car / traveller? (not sure of the correct term) which runs on a "traveller" attched to the top of the boom

The wheels on the "car' have become badly worn and it jams, stopping the sail in the early stages of unfurling.

The "car" (see photo) has a stamp on it YTE England - i have failed to find YTE despite numerous Googles

Second photo here:

Hope the photos upload

Can anyone help here? Thanks in advance ..... -)

First, the easy thing would be to find YTE but as my local Chandler says - built 1980 - maybe out of business, I have failed to find on Google

Second, anyone know of suppliers of a similar "car"

And Thirdly -- I guess - it is finding a little engineering shop that can press new bearings on to the shafts to act as wheels

And last - what is this correct term "car" "traveller" ..... ????

All advice, comments, ideas welcomed

Bill mine has 3 rollers on each side and it is usable i will take some pics and post it here ...it6 is made by the same company yours is ...this came off a Irwin sailboat and i think it was used for the travel car for the mainsheet on the boom ...it measures 3 and 5/8 inches from end to end where yours may measure 2 and 7/16 end to end so it would be about 9/16 longer from the center of the u shackle to the end but i think it will still work for you ...also the wheels will come off by removing a e clip keeper on each axle so no mater what it will be a good parts source for you

That's the kind of stuff you see in yacht surplus stores like Minney's in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach in So. Cal. They won't have an online catalogue, but you might email them a picture of the car, the track and a few dimensions and they may be able to match it up for you..... google Minney's Yacht Surplus for contact info. Good luck, nice boat.

Looks like it has "C" clips holding the bad "wheels" on. Perhaps a friend with a lathe could turn you some out of nylon as a last resort.

Hi Woody - thanks for trying with yours, but the sizes don't work, do they.

Yes, i will explore the machinist option. Thanks so much for your interest and time..

and btw, what the heck is this device called? Is it a "car" a "traveller" or ???

get some catalogues on boat rigging hardware and just read through it you will be amazed what you will pick up by doing so also there is a lot of information on this site...there are some pretty sharp people on here and they can teach you a lot just by reading the threads

A traveler is a mainsail trimming device used to adjust the sail's "angle of attack". A traveler's primary parts are a metal "track" and a "car".(or a travel car, most people just call it a car) The car travels on the track. There are sliding cars and there are roller bearing cars.. There are a number of devices on a sailboat that use a track and a car... the jib fairlead system for example. Or your mizzen's furling system.

If you know the name of the furling system you might be able to track it down that way.
But you're more likely to get a hit if you pass the picture around to some yacht surplus stores... You can simply email them a picture of the car and your track and some basic dimensions. The main thing is to identify your track type and size Because they might be able to match it up to another manufacturer's car.

Here's a a traveler car for a Prindle 16 beach cat... You can purchase it new from Murray's online for $80. But you still need to know if it fits.. include the dimensions and shape of the track in your search. Good Luck.
