I own a 1987 37' Legend. Boat wt is approx. 18,000 lbs. I am in the market for a wheelpilot and I am having trouble deciding between the Simrad wp30 or the Autohelm 4000. Can someone please help me! Thank you!

Use the Forum Archives Jim, this has been discussed so many times. Use "simrad wp30" as a search argument and select the "alls". The Related Link is an example from 2000. Simple answer is that the WP30 is simpler and stronger. But you do not get a display.

Not sure that these are they correct choice.

Jim: Depending on what you want the autopilot for, I am not sure that these external A/P are the correct choice for your size boat. Ed happens to have a H37C which, like most of the Cherubini's had a very netural helm. I think that the later models need a more powerful A/P unit. If you have to choose based on price, then the Simrad should do a better job. You are going to exceed the specs of the Autohelm 4000 with your boat and you will be close to the limit on the Simrad.

Jim, we have an Autohelm (Raymarine)...

ST7000 on our P42. It is strong and reliable. We need this heavy of a unit because of the 25,000 pound displacement. You might want to look into the ST6000. also a below decks unit. Terry
