I have a 1982 Catalina 25, bought last year just before the drought. This will be my first year to sail her. I have sailed a Coronado 25 for several years and have sailed a couple of Hunters in the 30+ range. My question is I have the oppertunity to purchase an Edson wheel conversion (at an attractive price)and was wondering if this is a worthwhile idea for a Catalina 25 or should I stick with my tiller? Is the cockpit large enough to make it better or worse? ANY ideas, opinions or suggestions are appreciated. Also anyone having done this could you give me measurements as to where you located the pedestal? Thanks, Fred

C-25 wheel

Fred; I would advise against going with a wheel in a C-25. The cockpit is not big enough, and besides, with a tiller, you get instant feedback, better handling, and when anchored it folds up out of the way. A Navico 1800 is the perfect autopilot, too, inexpensive and easy to install. (I used to have a C-22 and a C-30 and I wished that 30 had had a tiller instead of a wheel) Larry

Don't Recomend

I have a 27 with a tiller, but have a freind with a 27 and a weel. He is always telling me how much more room my cockpit has than his. The 27 can handle it but in my opinion just barly. The 25 would be way to small.
