An ugly sound from the wheel had me looking to Don Casey's Good Old Boat and the resulting realization that I have neglected maintenance. The Casey book is relatively clear on what to do for a quadrant system. What I would like to know if anyone has tackled the job on this particular model, 1982 H27? If so, what are the particular quirks? How did you access the areas to be greased or oiled? Anything else strange of different to be aware of? Thanks. Andy "Baroque"

Edson?

Hi Andy, Is your pedestal an Edson? Years ago I ordered their catalog online. The order asked for boat year and model. When I received the catalog it included a couple of Xerox copies from their file. The pages are diagrams of the exact installation on my boat including part numbers and maintenance instructions. Basically it is keeping the chain inside the pedestal oiled along with the wheel shaft. That requires removing the binnacle. Then there are the sheave bearings/shafts at the bottom, accessible from behind the engine on mine. I also keep the cable oiled just to prevent corrosion. From Wi-Fi at Harbor North.
