I was wondering if anybody else has replaced the steering wheel lock on the boat. I have an 1981 H33 with the Edison pedistal and the wheel lock seems to be worn out. I don't want to just unscrew it (with my luck springs will fly and parts go everywhere). What tips can anyone give me before I start this.

Contact Edson

The wheel brake has no springs etc. in it. If you contact Edson either on line or through their 800 number, their catalog has a full description and diagram of the wheel brake and related parts. It's a pretty simple process to install, but you will need to remove the compass and binacle from the top of the pedestal first, again not a big deal. If your concerned with dropping screws etc. into the pedestal while installing the brake just stuff a rag in there first to keep anything from falling. Good Luck, Len.

Edson Wheel Brake repair kit

The current West Marine Sail Master Catalog lists an Edson Brake Maintenance Kit which says includes complete instructions. It is also probably listed on their web site westmarine.com
