Every time I sail I have to screw down my folding wheel locks over and over. I am speaking of the large black oval-shaped spoke-locks that allow you to collapse the wheel. Is there a fix for this?

Yes. There are kits readily available if it a contemporary make consisting of the friction bars similar to drum brakes on a car. Check your local chandlery or on-line marine sources.

I think the kits that Don is referring to are for the lock that keeps the wheel from turning. I don't believe that there is any product available to eliminate the spoke screws.

You could jury rig a system using close fitting tubing (PVC or whatever) to slide over the spoke joint but unless it was a tight fit there would need to be some way to secure it so the wheel wouldn't accidently fold. This would most likely occur during a stiff wind jibe, tight space docking or close maneuvering in a crowded marina.

The more I hear about folding wheels the better I feel about my decision to just install a smaller diameter one.

I have a folding wheel and love it. Out of the way when I need it to be...there when I need it. Worth the 17.2 seconds it takes to secure it.

Do you folder lovers have to continually tighten the locks as I do while sailing?

I did write to Edson. They replied (promptly) that they wanted a photo of what I was referring to. I will do that on Saturday.
