Wheel on my 2004 Hunter 33 not quite in the smooth as silk category. Somewhat noisy and appears almost binding within the hub mechanism. Has geared Raymarine autopilot attached. Have backed off central attachment bolt with little effect. Assume pedestal is utilized across the Hunter range therefore suggestions from any direction much appreciated.

What brand is the pedestal?
On Edson, remove the compass and you see the drive chain. Edson recommends lubing it with 30 weight motor oil. I recommend using a dedicated drivechain lube. Every autoparts store sells this. Much less messy than Motor oil and stays on better.
Once you have fresh lube on that chain, it should turn better.
