Wheel Brake -- Just a Thought
Dear Ken: I expect by your post that you have already determined that parts/replacement is needed. But just in case you haven't yet broken down your pedestal to take a look, I'll recount the experience I had with my boat. The wheel brake on my Yacht Specialities pedestal wasn't working too well when I bought the boat (1980 Cherubuni Hunter). Turned out: 1) Oil/grease had worked its way between the grip pads and the wheel axle. I removed the pads and thoroughly cleaned them and the axle mating area with acetone. 2) The bolts that adjust the clearance between the grip pads and the axle had worked themselves way loose over time. I reigned them in again. The brake works fine now. regards,
