What's this for on my H34

Okay, I've had my "new" 85 h34 for a month now. I am mystified by the built in thing on the table. Not big enough for a highball glass, too big for a shot glass. Is this for hot sauce and napkins? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Condiments (salt, pepper, ketchup packets) and silverware prior to eating. Also useful for bashing my knee on. My wife said "Take that thing off and I will use it upside down under the table for my feet". Her feet don't reach the floor when she sits on the settee. Now she has a stool and is more comfortable.

I think that thing is directly related to the other thing on the cabin top (the flip up Plexiglas lid). We've never kept anything in there either because the drain holes plug up and it gets all green.

Allan-
Thank you. Great to know they put in all that effort to secure the flatware on the settee. The only thing I can think to put in the cabin top thing with the plexiglass lid is a few sail gaskets. Not enough room for my mainsail cover. Like you said, it's a nasty environment to stow a line. Maybe with some ice packs it could hold a few beverages...
Thx again.

Never found a good use for the tubes, but paper napkins normally live in the larger section. Now the built in liquor locker.. I have found a use for it!

Well, I do find the compartment useful for keeping a few pens and pencils. A previous owner apparently found the tubes useful for crayons, but I don't use crayons very often. I might just put the handle for the overboard discharge valve in there.

Salt and pepper shakers and toothpicks in the tubes. Napkins in the rest. Just my use for 'em.

Just to clarify, this is the small storage area in the dinette table surface.
I am also given to understand the mostly useless storage area on deck near the mast is for sail ties, mast winch handle, and useful working items to keep them from getting free like they would if spread about on deck.
