We are looking to purchase a Hunter in the 27-28 foot range. We see the displacements for some Hunter 27s at about 7000 lbs - with most at 4000 lbs. We understand the higher displacements will enable a more stable boat. Also what does the Hunter Sloop model like. The cabins seem to appear to have low headrooms. Thanks

I am not an expert in this area, but here is my 2

cents worth of understanding. I happen to own a 1978 Hunter 27 which is rated at 7000lbs. Th is is known as the Cherubini series of Hunters. They were build by a terrific designer named Cherubini. Their signature along with large hull displacement is also great cabin headroom. Mine has a full fin keel (4' draw) with a reliable Yanmar (which a just had rebuilt for the first time - upper end.) Yes, this is an old boat, but we love it. It is really built tough. Hope this helps.

I have the later model which displaces 5000. It has 3 1/2 feet of draft and a wing keel. It is very different from the Cherubini other than sharing the same mainsheet system and also having over 6' of headroom below. The cabin is more streamlined towards the bow and the stern is a sugarscoop walk through with a swimdeck. below the cockpit is a comfortable double bed that runs from starboard to port.
