What's the basic differance between the Coolmatic series and the Cold machines, clearly a price differance and box size range, however at the upper end of the coolmatic and the lower end of the cold machine overlap in the 5 to 7 cf range. Would the coolmatic work as well as a cold machine in a 6.5 cu foot box? Thanks, Steve

Capacity Versus Efficiency

Each boat and each owner’s refrigeration needs are different, so one system does not fit all. No one can answer a question about what is the best refrigeration for you and your boat without knowing more about the boat and how and were you will be using it. There are from twenty to fifty different configurations of these new systems to choose from, study your options then go for price. The WAECO Coolmatic 85 is a good small unit for a small box but, the evaporator and condenser options are limited if you want a good refrigerator. The Adler Barbour Cold machine would be a better selection if the box is larger than four cubic ft. For a good review of how to select the right 12 volt unit, see the slide show on What works And What Doesn't http://www.kollmann-marine.com
