I am considering updating my 9 year old PC nav program which has given loyal service using vector charts and which today's programs do not match for convenience etc. I see in your Nav Tips No 7 Chart Interfacing Compatibility that there are "extraordinally exciting new data products scheduled for furure release". Could you please advise what these products will do as I will need to ensure compatibility/upgradability. Regards- Don Alexander

new data

Don, At the time the catalog tips were produced the vector charting arena was limited to a handful of commercial nav products and fewer recreational softwares which could utilize exsisting vector data. Since then Nobeltec introduced the PASSPORT vector charts which are TRANSAS commercial vector charts repackaged for the rec. boater at a reduced cost. The PASSPORT format is proprietary to the Nobeltec software. It is by and large pretty good data and has world coverage. MaxSEA and RayTech software allow the use of C-MAP NT vector charts withe the use of an additional product called a C-MAP chart reader. It plugs into the parallel port of the computer. Somewhere down the road the gov't vector data from NIMA will be available......
