What's better, paint or jelcoat??

Although the jelcoat still looks good after 40 yrs on my Cal20, It's time to redo it and fix the scratches accumulated over the years. Same with my Cal34. I've been told not to ever paint them, because the paint only lasts a few years if your lucky, and I'll have to keep repainting them, even if I paint them with LP. I've also been told jelcoat looks better, lasts longer. and is cheaper. Has anyone redone their boat with jelcoat? If so what were the results. Thanks

and I think you'll find that even the best polyurethane (2-part) paint job is much cheaper than a proper re-gellcoat job. You cannot just over-paint gellcoat on - it's a big job. I know, there's also a lot of preparation for Awlgrip (whatever) - still ...
