What's best for rust stains in gelcoat?

I have been able to remove many small rust stains from my smooth white gelcoat using SEA GLOW. (the rust is in the chalk that is removed by the product).Howverm, on my non0skid pilothouse top, there is a crack in the gelcoat next to a bolt, that has allowed water to get to the (supposedly) stainless bolt, resulting in extensive staining - the boat was over here unattended for over 5 years while this happened.I remember a great product I saw at IMTEC in '96 called "Majica" but can no longer locate these people. I am wondering if you people out there know where I can find this or a similarly effective product. Suggestions?ThanksJim WIllisPS, I am trying out some candidate non-ski sealants that should stop stains from things like tools oleft on deck, teak sawdust etc.

Hi Jim~Haven't heard of Majica but have you tried FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover)? It's basically just oxalic acid in convenient gel form. Worked pretty well for some major gelcoat staining (mud, not rust) for me.LaDonna

I've had good luck using FSR on several boats. Do take care to wear propper protective equipment, though. It could burn you if you're careless. Also, watch out that it doesn't do a number on your brightwork.Justin - O'day Owner's Web

Right off the shelf..... VIM ... liquid cleaner. A little bit on your rag covered finger tip and almost anything will come off. Have used it on rust often. Careful though as it is quite corrosive. Great for the tough jobs.
