what year did the Catalina 36 get the sugar scoop

Has the Catalina 36 always had the sugar scoop swim step or what year was that added... been looking at some pics of used Catalinas and it is hard to tell how they look at the stern.Is there any history of the changes and updates to the 36?email: gcarman@eudoramail.comthanks

Two Scoops

Hey Gene, I think they did the walk throught transom in 1995 when they introduced the Mark II. My wife and I just bought a 2001 C36 Mark II, Hull # 1971.It's a sweetheart. There is a lot more room in the Mark II because they carry the beam farther aft. The cockpit is much larger and the aft cabin is as well.Good Luck,Chris

I have a 91 and it is a walk through. I believe they started in in either 90 or 91.

Walk Through

I own a C-34 and can only speak to that model. The first sugar scoop transom was introduced in the late 1990 model year. It first appeared without a walk thru, but was quickly replace with the walk thru feature. I own a early 1990 model which does not have the swim step or walk thru feature. I went this route because the same year model with sugar scoop and walk thru transom demands an additional 5 to 10 thousand on the selling price.

I know they had the walk-thru in 1990 - I've even seen a few 1989 models with this feature. Maybe they were 1990 models built in late 1989. They do command a premium price vs. the non-walk-thru models. I would like to have it, but my 84 model will have to do for now!Russ
