$2K a Month?

$2K a month would be great monthly budget and I highly recommend it if you can do it. On the other hand any cruiser spending that or more will be handing out cash to anyone who can fix and or repair any of the 100s of fancy cruising amenities that go wrong when at sea. Listen up those of you who can do a thing or two, or everything, as some well trained Americans can. Going cruising with skills is what I'm talking about here. A good friend, who when I met him was living on a 23ft sailboat and working nights cleaning grocery stores, found a simple way to go to paradise and live. His skill set included boat restoration, it had to because all the boats he could ever afford were back yard boats. He sold his 29' sailboat and bought a 32' in Hawaii that needed restoration. Of course an all cash deal. Anyway he moves out there, puts the boat in a slip for $345/mo. and commences to restoring the boat slowly while living in, did I say it, Paradise. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Life in Paradise on a modest budget. So many people are scared away from the idea of living aboard and cruising by going to a boat show. Once they see the prices, they start shopping used Motor Homes. I'm not suggesting in any way that's a bad thing. I don't want too many more people in my sport, it's getting too crowded as it is.

"it's getting too crowded as it is."

Sure is. Everyday I look at the Grenada webcam and see the anchorage full. Everyday I ask myself "Where would I anchor if I came in today".

We're all with you in spirit. I'm sailing to Tillman Island to look at a used Catalina 400 wednesday to maybe move aboard this spring and rent the house. Baby steps. I WANNA SEE SAFARI CARS SOMEDAY! Hey Blue toad, the one guy at the seminar without a pension was just cool. Talked about living in bizzaro south pacific and a bamboo boom. It's amazing what you really don't need, but he did this in his 20's. Nobody has much but hutzpa in their 20's and time makes us soft. sigh...

"and time makes us soft."

Only if you let it. You are in control of your life...nobody or no other thing...just you.
