A few years back, anchored in China Cove, I had a smallish Bayliner come in and drop his hook right where I'd dropped mine. I rowed the dink over and explained that I had 120 feet of chain out, which the Bayliner thought was excessive even though their vocabulary didn't include the word "scope." They left, finlly, but not before excoriating my heritage. No sooner had I put the dink up for the night, a new-looking Beneteau anchored nearby in a spot where I felt they stood a good chance of going aground when the tidal current reversed. I would normally have offered some unsolicited advice in that situation, but was so put out by my encounter with the Bayliner that I decided to leave the dink on deck and mind my own business. Sure enough, when I woke up the next morning, the Beneteau was lying on its side up on the beach. I still feel awful about not attempting to intervene in that situation.
