I recently purchased a H240 but the rudder on the boat looks different than all the other rudders I've seen on the same type of boat. Does anyone know why?
Thanks.
Bob

Looks nothing like the rudder our 2000 h240 had. That is definatly smaller!

Bob;

It looks like an earlier rudder offered by Hunter possibly on the 23.5 or the early one on the 240 but it definitely looks like an earlier Hunter rudder on what I can see from the above photo.

Thanks so much Dave. The boat is one of the earlier 240's. I think it's a 1998 model. Does the new designed rudders work better than this one? If you'd recommend a new version, where is the best place to buy one.
Best wishes,
Bob

Your rudder is different than my 1998 H240. I looked at the 240's and 23.5's on sailingtexas ( http://www.sailingtexas.com/cboats99hunters.html ) and didn't see anything like it. Could be a different Hunter model. I suspect it was replaced at some point. It appears to be about the same length as my 240 rudder, I could measure mine if you like. If you are not having problems with it, why replace it?

There is a boat near mine that has a rudder somewhat similar to that - it is an Ida rudder. Yours may be as well, maybe an aftermarket replacement.

I was assuming this was a fiberglass rudder as reported by Indianabob but if malern plastic, then possibly Idasailor

Hi Dave,
Yes it is a fiberglass type of rudder and not a malern plastic. My concern is how close to the pivot the hole is for lifting the rudder. I don't think there is enough leverage to lift it easily. If I wanted to buy a new rudder, is there a particular one that you'd recommend.
Thanks again for your assistance!
Best,
Bob
