I have a 1982 Catalina 22. It was purchased five years ago from someone in Pennsylvania who purchased it the year before from another person in Maryland. Initially the boat was sailed in salt water. the botttom paint is still the same paint from when the boat was kept in salt water in Maryland. I sail the boat in freshwater, keeping it in a slip for 5-6 months a year. The paint seemed at first to be indestructable. It isn't an ablative paint, and feels hard to the touch, with an orange peel like texture. However, I think that this year will be the last year that I get out of the paint. It is starting to show signs of deterioration. Can someone here advise me on what type of paint this is? What type of paint is available which has the same characteristics. What type of non ablative paint is there which would ber affordable, and provide more than 1 or 2 seasons of use?
