I have a 1979, Johnson, 6 HP, 2 stroke motor on my C-22. We have used it for years and it has taken us many miles when it had to. It always worked well on TCW-2 oil, which was specified in the owners manual that came with the motor. Several years ago, the 2-stroke oil was changed to TCW-3, because jet skiis needed this better oil. This is when my problems began. TCW-3 oil fouled the plugs in my motor very quickly. I then purchased several years worth of TCW-2 oil and was OK, until now. I can't find any more of the TCW-2 oil. I have been told that if I clean the top end of my motor that I will be fine with the TCW-3 oil, and have the motor off the boat, and the gaskets on order to do that. What type of oil do those of you that have similar OMC vintage motors use? I have thought about using regular 2 cycle oil, such as that used in motorcycles and chain saws, but that doesn't comply with what the manufacturer recommended. Does anyone use this type of 2-cycle oil? I know that a 2-cycle motor isn't environmentally friendly, but I haven't found a 4-cycle motor that is near the weight of my motor, and we haven't decided if we are going to get a bigger Catalina yet. Thanks for your response. We still had a great sail on Sunday without the motor, there was a nice cool breeze on the Chesapeake, and I didn't miss the motor a bit. Aldo
