What to do with the fuel fill for new tank install?

Just like I do everything else, I tend to close my eyes and cannonball into the deep end of every project

The original tank was removed and had the fuel fill in the cockpit floor. I couldn't tell you how the original tank was setup, nor can I find any pictures online or from the Ranger group on Face book that pertains to a 33. But, I managed to install a new tray and a 12 gallon Moeller tank and was planning to sit the new fuel fill directly over the tank fill neck. Now that it is though, it is a lot tighter than I realized even after measuring. There is only going to be about 1/2" gap between the tanks neck and the fuel fill barb. I'm afraid there won't be enough give for any floor flex or deflection and the tank might work and then crack down the road.

Should I move the fill off to one side and put some 90* bends in? This would be pretty easy, and should allow movement of the cockpit to not affect the tank. Are there short pieces of "bellows" type fuel fill that would allow flex? Is there other hoses out there I don't know about? The stuff I saw at the store was stiff enough to hit baseballs with :D

Just looking for some insight, I could post pics if you need em. . .

Thanks!!

Most fuel fill (deck plate) barbs are quite long enough to allow for some shortening and still have enough length for double clamping. Doing this could give you the clearance that would assure enough "flex" over the run of connector hose. You still may need to install the deck plate into the hose from the cockpit to get it to all fit. A straight run like this is much easier to fill than having a 90 degree bend, and you can use a dip stick too for checking fuel level.

Thanks for the idea, I was looking at it tonight and it looks like that might be the best way to do it right now ;)

It also looks pretty easy to glass in a floor beam to really stiffen everything if I felt it necessary. I also found some trident corrugated hose that is supposed to be extra flexi :D
