Hey everyone. I just bought a used group 31 battery, but when I got home I found one of the cells is leaking, is there any way to fix that or do I have to scrap it?

What causes a cell to leak? Did it freeze and break? IMO it's trashed. :(

Leonard: What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?
Sheldon: Screwed.
Leonard: There you go.

Another possible cause of a leaking lead acid battery cell is overcharging. Assume there is acid seeping through the cell cap. The battery could be warped, inflated or distorted. If you notice any of these conditions it means the battery is damaged and should be disposed of and replaced immediately.

unfortunately it's leaking from the bottom, it was low on acid when I got it, so I topped it up and it leaked

you might want to scratch off your list of friends whoever sold you a used, leaking battery. Cheap doesn’t usually equate to value.

It's 9 degrees F here right now. I removed my batteries right before the front came in and brought them home. My charger is unplugged because I'm in the middle of a holding tank hose project underneath the battery shelf in the stern locker. It was 60 degrees Friday!

Check with a scrap yard they may pay more for the lead than the core deposit.
