What boat, the shallow draft or the deep draft is a better race boat? I know that the deeper draft will be better going to weather but is it a ok off set for the shallow water.
If you are interested in racing you should get the deep draft for increased performance, especially to windward. The leeway you will make with shoal draft when close hauled will cost you the position you fought so hard for all during the race.PAT
Hey Cliff,We have a shoal draft 28.5 in our club and the pointing difference upwind in a breeze between my deep fin 25.5 and the 28.5 is significant. There could be a slight difference in PHRF factors between the deep/shoal keel in your area but the better upwind performance should more than offset the handicap difference. You trading again??Dick VanceH-25.5 "Honey Bear"
