I am a new H260 owner and want to find out what speeds I should be expecting. With our 9.9 Honda I seem to max out at 5.4 knots. Under full stock main and roller furling jib up wind I have reached 5 knots. Under assemetrical spinnaker and main down wind I have reached 6 knots. Wind conditions have been in the 16 to 6 knot range. How much more speed is their to gain?

It sounds like you are doing great. If at the end of every day you can put those #'s in your log you had a great day. I don't ever remember how to convert from knots to mph, but Fred does.

260 Speed
Welcome to the club! I'm not going to get into it regarding hull speed and sail trim, but the speeds you mentioned are ballpark for the 260. Some folks have posted higher speeds but they also included a strong current and/or following seas which allowed for some "surfing". You will find the 260 to be very good in light air and after you get a feel for how she handles to weather she can be right sporty, being as beamy as she is. Steve Kamp, H260 "Carolina Girl"

So tell me more about the 6.2 & 6.7 numbers. Are these all time high numbers or standard every time you sail numbers. Loaded with fresh water, gear and six adults or bare day sailing single handed? What type of sail configuration? Stock or modified sails? How much wind, what direction? How much healing if into the wind?

My best is about 7 knots
That was on a very broad reach, no current, no waves, winds 20 knots plus and fairly steady. We averaged in the 6's but the gusts squeeked us over 7. The boat was nearly flat and making a big wake like a power boat. You couldn't ask for better conditions to be heading down wind in. We were spending 4 days on the boat with 3 adults and 3 kids so it was fairly heavy. My old Honda 7.5 seems to push it about 5 knots or so at 2/3 throttle although I don't normally check speed while motoring. By the time you get to around 5 knots it takes a LOT more power and fuel to gain a little speed so unless I am in a hurry or going against a current I usually only run 2/3 throttle.
