I think it's 3/16

Mike: I think that it is 3/16. You can find your answer on the Hunter Marine website under their FAQ section.

You May Need to Check

My experience this year on two different boats is that Hunter insisted that 3/16 was the proper measurement. In fact, both boats required 3/8" flax to properly seal the stuffing box. My friend's boat could have sunk if he were not there the check the packing at launch time and the yard hadn't checked.

Size

I have a '92 Hunter 30T that I changed the packing a few years ago. I have some left in the package and can check it's size this weekend. The first time I changed it I used flax and it lasted a year before leaking badly. I sent off for Teflon packing and haven't had a problem since,it looks like the flax packing but is really slippery and a synthetic product vs natural. I'll try and remember but I thought it was 1/4".

1/4 inch

if the shaft is 1-inch. Be sure to check, because too small will drip incessently.
