Hello, I'm looking to buy an outboard motor (t least 6HP or larger 4 stroke) for my H23 and would like to know what size shaft I should use. Any requirements / suggestions ? BTW...I'm on a large lake with some medium sized waves. Thanks Mike

Hey Mike

Do you still have the original bracket? Because you'll want a new one of them too, so you can lift the motor out of the water. As for the motor shaft - longer is better. 25 is ok, 30 would be better. you've got a relatively light boat with with the weight concetrated in the middle, and a flat bottom..she pitches with the wave action. If you want your prop and water intake to be in the water, get an extra long shaft.

Thanks

I do still have the original bracket for lifting the motor out of the water when under sail. I found a few motors with a 25" shaft and it looks like that's the one I'll go with. Thanks for your advice. Mike

Yeah you'll wanna replace that factory mount eventually..

and 6 hp should be plenty. My motor's not a long shaft, but I don't really have trouble keeping the prop down, it takes a good swell. When its time to replace it though, I'll probably get one.
