What size fender?

OK, I admit, I have a pet peeve about the prices for boat fenders. But, when I mentioned to the marina manager my idea to use firehose stuffed with tennis balls as fenders, he pointed out that the dimensions of a fender are directly proportional to the length of the boat – i.e. the longer the LOA, the wider in diameter the fender needs to be. So …

… does anyone know the recommended size of a fender for a 37ft boat, and does anyone have any ideas on where to find them at a reasonable price.

Most fender manufacturers have recommended sizes on their web sites.

I use Taylor Made Big-B fenders. I use a 10" dia x 26" long for my 40' sailboat. Taylor Made recommends this size for 35-50' boats.

I buy at my local Defender Industries warehouse sale in the Spring. Last time they were selling a package of three for $100.
