Even though we are actively looking for the perfect deal on a h260 we want to upgrade our 1994 h23.5 with a roller furling to use this season just in case we don’t move up to a h260 this year.
What roller furling is best suited for the h23.5 regarding:
· Refitting current 110 jib to use
· Easy initial adaptation and rigging
· Easy re-rigging when trailering
· Best performance

Try CDI furler.I have it on my 95 23.5.Easy install.Check out sesmith forum on forestay failure .Even if you dont add furler .Adding swivle at top of forestay will take a lot of pressure off t-ball at mast.Had mine done last year,as forestay needed to be replaced because of wear.Uses existing forstay, jib fedup groove in furler, can drop sail without dropping mast.Islip my boat but trailer it to harbor with sail furled, bundgied on mast,Made a sunbrella cover for mast in winter so dont take off sail.Check out my post [bottom painting on trailer]will show cover.

Whatever you choose make sure the sail can be removed without having to drop the mast. Furlers that require the forestay be removed to remove the sail are a definite no.

I couldnt justify spending the $ on a furler, cause it would have cost more than I bought my H22 for, so I built a PVC furler, for about $40. I use my hank on genny. I have used it about a dozen times since building it, and it works pretty good. It isnt the same fit and finish as a purchased model, but it was a heck of a lot cheaper.

It uses the forestay, so I dont have to pull the mast down to remove it. My wife went down to the fabric store, and bought some sunbrella fabric, and sowed (sp?) on a sacrificial strip so when rolled up, its protected. That was the most costly part.

Unless you're going the home-made route, CDI offers an attractive combination of price, ease of installation, dependability, etc. I'd guess their model #2 would be fine. Good luck.

I'm very happy with my Schaefer Snapfurl CF500, other than it's hard to spell. Compared to the CDI, the foil is round and rolls up smoothly. A friend broke his CDI foil in half, but managed to patch it together somehow. You'd never break the snapfurl's foil. The halyard isn't used, so that freed up a slot in the clutch that I use for my boom vang. I assume there is an equal list of advantages to the CDI.

With mine, I don't remember if can get at the forestay turnbuckle with the sail on (I've probably never tried since I take the sail off for the winter), and I know you can't take the foil off without cutting the forestay and replacing it. You have to use the standard #5 luff tape they mention or you'll never get the sail up and down the slot.
