What parts should I replace while my Hunter 240 is on slings for center board maintenance?

Going to have my Hunter 240 put on slings to replace the center board up haul line soon. The boat is about 20 years old. Which other parts should I replace while its on slings?

Should I buy the following parts: roller, roller pin, pivot pin, pivot busing, housing, spacer block or mounting bolt? Just trying to anticipate what to buy in advance.

Can you think of any other maintenance or parts that should be replaced while it is on slings?

Thanks! It is a great boat in many ways and love taking it out in the inland lakes in the Temecula area of Southern California with my children, grandchildren, and friends. Also I am planning to take it from Long Beach to Catalina some day - want it to be in good shape.

You could put bottom paint on while in the sling... especially up in the trunk.

These come to mine: Inspect thru-hull fittings, shaft, cutlass bearing and strut, bottom hull and keel paint condition and take photos to document. If work is required then move the boat to a cradle to perform replacement or bottom hull and keel painting.

Thank you. The hull was painted when I purchased it two years ago when it was docked most of the time. But now it is always trailered.

I'd order and replace all the small parts you listed that are likely to wear. Maybe order roller, pivot bushing, and spacer block. Hopefully the housing and pins are okay.

Thanks, Doug. I notice you are in SD. I am in Temecula. Let me know if you ever want to sail together. I mainly sail the inland lakes.

The 240 is pretty simple. I think the parts mentioned about cover it. You might check the centerboard for any damage that may need repair. As mentioned , it''s a good time to clean out and bottom paint inside the trunk.

Make sure your line thru hull is 7/16 inch line, NOT 1/2 inch. Also check roller under mast step which you can check visually

Please, no sealant added to top of centerboard bracket when putting back inside housing. Jut put a bead of caulk around the bolt head after bolting down the center board bracket so water will not intrude into boat. As for the bolt you will need to hand tighten first to insure you are not stripping the threads. Then tighten using a deep well 1 1/8 inch socket

You can use duck tape to hold pins in place on the centerboard bracket so they will not fall out when putting bracket back in. Taught Hunter this trick

Thanks, maybe I will take you up on that. I would like to explore inland lakes.

In case you're interested, there will be a small Hunter San Diego Rally. At the California Yacht Marina in Chula Vista. The weekend of July 30, July 31 and Aug. 1. This Marina is right next to the launch ramp. Reservations can be made on line at: tieup.at/chula-vista

So far sounds like there will be 5-6 Hunters attending. Let me know if you want more information.

It's a casual get together at the marina, with a potluck Saturday night. Everyone will arrive Friday. Saturday we will sail out to Point Loma and back which is about 14 miles each way, all in the Bay. Or, just go out as you please. Sunday morning pack up and head home. It started with a friend posting on Facebook, Hunter 26/260 and 270 Sailors group, asking if there would be any interest in a get together and there is. It's not limited to boat model or brand though. I know of at least one Macgregor 26 and one Potter 19 that will be there. Anyone is welcome. Contact the California Yacht Marina Chula Vista, CYM Chula Vista | A California Yacht Marina When making reservation provide code word "Hunter", for a 10% discount.

Thanks. BTW, I also have a Potter 19, Potter 15, classic Lido and Lido 6000. All on trailers on my property in Temecula. I admit, I am sailing addict! I take them out according to the size of my crew, many of which are my grandchildren.

That's quite a fleet and crew!
I learned to sail on Sabot's and a Lido that I once owned.

Dolphin55...........when the boat is out of the water, that is a good time to repair or replace your waterline boat stripe, if you have one. I have that on my boat's out of the water maintenance list.

I'm in between crews. My four kids are all in their 20s and busy with their own lives (Cat in the Cradle). So I'm waiting for new crew:biggrin:
