The Yanmar manual calls for SAE 10w-30 CC oil. But I understand that the CC rating is no longer used.....

Can anyone recommend a brand of oil ? Prince is not a major consideration since the transmission oil is not used up and the transmission takes.

Thanks

Not sure which model you have, but for my 3YM30 I use Rotella straight 30W.

Use a good diesel oil .. Some folks only use straight 30 wt, but some use the same Shell Rotella T 15-40 wt.. that is in the crankcase.. don't use synthetic.. All the major oil guys make a Rotella equivalent.. Chevron's is Delo, ExxonMobil's is named Delvac.. These are available at Wal Mart or auto parts places..

The first letter of the API rating is "C" which

indicates that it is designated for use in diesel engines. "C" denotes compression fired. The second letter denotes the level of the additive package. These tend to change after several years as better additives are developed with succeeding letters exceeding the previous ones. For instance, "CD" is better than "CC" and so on. Diesel crankcase oil can usually be used in gasoline engines so they might include that rating also indicated by the letter "S" (spark fired) which would only be of concern to someone wanting to use it in a gasoline engine. Most likely a recent bottle of 10W-30 diesel crankcase oil would be something like "CJ" indicating that it has exceeded the original requirement several times and would be excellent for your use.
