Two questions: First - how do you know what model Daysailer you have - as to II or III? The tag on the transon says that it is a 25th anniversary edition - making it at least a 1984. I don't believe that I can rely on the mainsail number since it may be a 2nd or 3rd edition. What else establishes whether it's a II or III? My second question pertains to the masthead sheaves. Both sheaves are jammed (---corroded or expanded) in place and, for some time now the mainsheet halyard has simply pulled across the sheaves - making the contact points quite shiny! The pins holding the sheaves are original, and peaned in place, but their removal would not be difficult. Where can I get replacement sheaves of the correct size that I could simply hold in place with a thru bolt and nut?

drmarine.com should have them, or make your own or match them at west, odds are that if you punch out the pins and clean up the parts and replace with ss bolt and lock nut every thing may work again. i have a early edition of the daysailor and a javelin.

My first guess
If it is a 25th anniversary edition, my first guess is that it is a DS II. Only the hull number will tell you for sure however. If it is a 1984 edition the HIN will be XDYD _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 84 with the 4 or 5 middle numbers being your sail number and the last two blanks before the 84, the month of manufacture. The middle numbers will be between 4522 and 12943, and most likely near the higher end as no more DS II's were built after 1984. I actually suspect that it is a 1982 model DS II. If the HIN does not start with XDYD then it is a DS I Spindrift with a hull number above 11000. DS III's were not built until 1985. Let us know what the HIN is. It should be on the outside transom between the two rudder gudgeons.

That differs slightly from Roger's line up in that there is no second "D" after the "Y," there are only five numbers in the sequence, and the sequence is followed by "F4" rather than a simple numeric designation for the month of manufacture. I do question whether there are 5 or 6 numbers in the sequence??? Is this a hybrid of some sort - or were Anniversary models built after 1984 with special numbering. Incidentally, the "5" looks like it was molded separately from the rest of the numbers - appearing in a slightly recessed square following the "8.". My preliminary take is that it is possibly a 1985 Daysailer III. If that's the case, what is the difference between the II and III that makes the III ineligible for class racing???
