John Cherubini principle designer

Your Hunter most probably was designed by John Cherubini as he was Hunter's principle designer during the years that your boat was designed and built. Warren Lurrs a designer in his own right was wise to hire John to do Hunter's designs. I happen to think that those were the best years for Hunter and that their new boats don't measure up in comparison. Just an opinion by someone who owns and appreciates a Cherubini Designed sailboat.

Cherubini info

In 1972, John Cherubini and Bob Seidelmann were commissioned by Waren and John Luhrs (the Luhrs brothers who formed Hunter Marine) to design a production sailboat for them. Thus, in 1972, the h25 was designed during the spring/summer of that year with its first production being in 1973. This was quickly followed by the h30 and then in early 1974 by the h27. John Cherubini was the designer, Bob Seidelmann kept him up to date on racing rules and user demands, and John Jr. doing much of the interior layout/design at the age of 15. The original 25 design called for a sloped cabin overhead blending into the deck which was replaced by the pop-top version inspired by other similar boats of the day by 1977. For a while, both versions were built alongside each other. The Cherubini Hunters were built up until about 1983. Cherubini boats were designed as real "yachts". Though somewhat tender on the stiff breeze, they are inherently safe and can, as many owners say, "be taken to hell and back". They are solidly built, roomy for their era, inherently responsive, and comfortable sailing boats.

Cherubini designs

John Cherubini designed some of the most beautiful schooners ever and I think he imparted much beauty into the "Cherubini" designs. I've sailed my fathers's boat since new purchase in 1981 and now he has given her to me. Everytime I step onto her I say this is a beautiful boat. I've only had her in 35 knots of wind and 25 foot seas and she is forgiving with a sluice of a cockpit drain. I'm going to keep he going for my son.
