What kind of Yanmar engine mounts do you have?

I have mounts for my 3gm30 that are like two upside down v. In between these are two rubber blocks on either side of the v. Two of these look like they have collapsed. I don't notice any bad vibration but would like to replace them. I've seem some yanmars with "regular" type mounts with a bolt embedded in rubber. What type of mount do you have? Does anyone else have this problem?

This article was interesting.

Are your mounts like the style in the attached photo I found? If so, they appear to be designed to control lateral motion and don't do much to isolate up and down motion if that is the "collapse" you are concerned about.

Are you sure you wish to replace? They are pretty expensive.

For 3GM30
124772-08341 front are $140/each
128270-08340 rear are $97/each (www.marinedieseldirect.com)

That's my engine mounts in your picture. Is that supposed to be a good one? I have two that the rubber "points" upward and two where the metal pieces are almost touching and the rubber seems to have "fallen". These two I am concerned about. I'd rather replace them now than at an inoppertune time.

The mounts just don't seem to be designed to hold the engine up, but if two of your are up and two aren't I guess it is possible your have collapsed. They definitely point "up" when new with no load per the photos I have seen. I suggest you call Torrensen http://www.torresen.com/ and ask them. They are very knowledgeable and have the parts as well. I have ordered from them before and they spent some time on the phone with me to ensure I got the right parts.

I emailed them last night and they responded today! They said the metal parts should not be touching (I figured this but was in denial). They recommend replacing all four at once! Holy cow! Add it to the list of winter projects.

Good

I am glad it worked out for you, but it certainly isn't inexpensive is it?

Next time I'm at the boat I'll take a good look at the mounts and make sure I need to do this.

The 100's are for the front and the 75's are for the rear. If the metal is touching the metal base, the engine is way out of alignment, the rubber has delaminated from the mount, or the engine bed is wrong. When we repowered our 9.2 C in '98 from a Yanmar 2GM to a 3GM 30, we had to extend the engine bed to make room for the forward mount. The new mounts make the engine act like it's on a bed of jello, so engine alignment is critical. The good news is that if everything is right, there's no vibration.

Somebody was selling some supposively good used mounts on ebay, but I don't think I'd buy a used engine mount.
