What Kind of Caulk?

Seems like everyone here is advising to stay away from the 5200 caulk. I want to re-seal the chainplates and rudder brackets on the Lil' Wass Ett - what do you folks recommend I use?

5200 isn't caulk...

Damm RIGHT..... Can thing be removed that have been 5200'ed down without ripping off the fiberglass?

Thanks for the input!

WOW! I never expected such a huge response from what appeared to be a simple question! Seems that the 5200 is the preferred sealant for permanent underwater applications (as long as you don't plan on removing it in the forseeable future!). I think I'll take Peggy's suggestion and use the Lifecaulk for my chainplates and other items above the waterline! Thanks again one and all!

Agree with JC II

Over the years, I have gradually got past all my apprehensions regarding 5200, and on the advice of some very good boatyards, started using it. I now use it for ALMOST everything, above the water, as well as below, and including chainplates. Something to consider...how many of those items that we don't consider to be permanent, need only to be removed to RENEW the bedding? In other words, if they had stayed put and had not needed to be rebedded, maybe we wouldn't even be dreaming of taking them off just to put them back on....food for thought! I bet a lot of us would prefer that some of those "temporary" installations were, in fact permanent. At least, I do.
